Some quick travel trips for being in the Rockies to ensure a smooth, fun, and well-organized trip.
A) International Flights
- We recommend landing into Vancouver then transferring domestically into Calgary if you are flying internationally from Asia and Australia. (Flying directly to Toronto can take longer, and it will take around 3.5-4 hours domestic to get into Calgary)
- We recommend finding a direct flight to Calgary if you are flying internationally from Europe (if you are departing from London, there will be non stop flights).
- If you are coming internationally, we recommend arriving into Calgary 2 days before the wedding day so you have enough time to drive to Banff.
B) Domestic Flights
- Direct flights to Calgary come hourly from Toronto and Vancouver.
- If you are arriving domestically from Vancouver or Toronto, we recommend arriving into Banff 1 day earlier so it's less rushed and time is budgeted for driving.
C) From Calgary
- If you live in Calgary, we recommend arriving half to one day earlier to check into the hotel.
Car rentals and chauffeur services must be booked in advance due to high season.
Car Rentals:
- Budget
- Hertz
- Avis
Bus services from Calgary to Banff:
- Busbud
- Driving/chauffer services (what the Tang's use): Alpha Chauffers
Driving tips:
- There is NO uber service in Banff, Canmore, and around the Rockies due to its unique location (this is only available in Calgary).
- There is a taxi service available in Banff, you will need to call to book.
- We DO NOT recommend driving in the evening. It is pitch black on the highways.
- Due to provincial laws, national parks across Canada do not allow private cars (ie. your rental car) to drive up/park at specific sites including private property. You may need to organize your own transportation across our wedding by booking specific shuttles registered under Parks Canada to get to your destination. (For example, our Welcome Drinks location Mount View BBQ, does not allow private cars including cabs to pull up onto the property unless they have the Park Canada license. We will be organizing shuttles for everybody. Another example would be Moraine Lake, which does not allow private cars to drive into the entrance of the lake unless registered with the hotel and holding a Parks Canada License. You would need to take a registered shuttle to the lake, which can be found online.)
Driving Time between Calgary and Banff:
- Budget 1.5 hour drive.
- Leave Calgary no later than 12 PM (it can get packed on the highways. Entering Banff is very busy with multiple day trip tourists and tour buses coming in. It also becomes very difficult to find parking).
All hotels, lodges, and resorts must be booked in advanced due to high season.
- We recommend using the 30% discount offer for Fairmont Banff Springs (most convenient).
- We recommend staying at the Rimrock Resort and other downtown Banff Lodges/Resorts. The drive to Fairmont Banff Springs would be no more than 10 minutes. Hotels in Banff may pose a minimum night stay to guarantee your reservation.
- We DO NOT recommend staying in Lake Louise or Canmore during the day of our wedding, and other towns for the following reasons: The drive can be 30 minutes to 2 hours away from Banff, especially if there is traffic or an accident, delays could be longer. There is very limited cab service in Banff and Canmore (not a lot on the road, expensive, and to be booked by phone). Lastly, the highway is pitch black driving at night with little to no visibility.
While Banff and the Rockies is a very family friendly place to be, children below 16 will not be able to attend our reception and will only be allowed to attend our ceremony. During our wedding day of July 5, 2025, we recommend checking out Childcare Connection at https://childcarebanff.com/ for all babysitting services! They're very familiar with Banff Springs and other hotels and have been around for years.
